Designing components and manufacturing processes together

We assess the manufacturability of components and assemblies right from the early stages of product development. Together with our customers, we evaluate materials, geometries, variants and processes from both a technical and economic perspective.

Our support includes feasibility assessments, component design optimised for manufacture and cost, and the development of suitable joining solutions. We assess costs at each stage of development and revision.

We develop the manufacturing processes, tools, fixtures and inspection concepts for the planned production series. In doing so, we take into account quality, process reliability and cost-effectiveness throughout the planned production period.

Information on simulation, design and manufacturing technology is available on our metal forming page.

Assembly production

Ready-to-install assemblies from a single source

In addition to individual stamped and formed parts, Craemer manufactures ready-to-install assemblies. We combine component manufacturing and joining technology in a coordinated production process, taking account of requirements for inspection and further processing.

Our services include welding and clinching, as well as cleaning, washing and surface coating. We work with qualified partner companies to provide additional finishing and surface treatment processes.

Bringing these services together can reduce the need to coordinate multiple suppliers. Coordinated manufacturing and inspection processes provide the basis for cost-effective serial production and a predictable supply of assemblies.

In-line processes

In-line processes for cost-effective series production

Additional processing, joining and inspection steps can be integrated into progressive or transfer dies, as well as automated production lines. This can eliminate the need for separate workstations and internal transport. Which steps can be combined depends on the component, production volume and process requirements.

Our production planning takes the following in-line processes into account:

  • Thread forming
  • Press-fitting nuts, studs and functional elements
  • Clinching and other mechanical joining processes
  • Component marking and process-integrated inspections

Downstream processes such as resistance welding, clinching and the inspection of critical features can also be integrated into automated production processes.

We plan forming, joining, inspection and, where applicable, assembly as an integrated process. This can shorten throughput times, simplify material flow and reduce the effort required per component. We tailor marking and inspection strategies to quality and traceability requirements.

Supply Chain & Material Handling

Aligning procurement and delivery planning with serial production

Craemer coordinates the procurement of raw materials and purchased parts, as well as the supply of materials for serial production. These include steel, stainless steel and aluminium, as well as mechanical components and fasteners. Material planning and inventory holding are based on the agreed requirements.

Our procurement and logistics processes encompass supplier management, incoming goods inspection, inventory management and the integration of purchased parts into assemblies. We align material flow and production planning with customer orders and delivery call-offs.

SAP S/4HANA supports order processing, material requirements planning, production control, and warehouse and dispatch processes. Shared data supports coordination between procurement, manufacturing and logistics.

We supply parts in accordance with the agreed delivery arrangements. This may include just-in-time and just-in-sequence deliveries. Requirements regarding batch traceability, documentation and delivery information are agreed on a project-by-project basis.

Toolmaking

In-house toolmaking for serial production start-up and ongoing manufacturing

Our in-house tool making department links development and design with serial production. We develop and manufacture progressive dies and transfer tools, as well as fixtures and inspection equipment for each production task.

Throughout serial production, we carry out tool servicing, maintenance and agreed modifications. Experience gained in production feeds into tool optimisation and subsequent projects. Direct coordination between tool making and production helps us implement changes and maintain stable serial production processes.

Further information on tool design, tool making and maintenance is available on our tool making page.
