Pallet flying in space

The Craemer pallet that made film history:

Now available for download as a 3D print file

Some of the most influential science fiction films were created in the 1970s and 1980s. Before the advent of CGI and StageCraft, set designers had to create entire futuristic worlds on a limited budget, often repurposing items originally designed for other uses.

Consequently, everyday objects and industrial products became iconic props and set components. For example, slide viewers and power drills were transformed into motion trackers, while camera flash handles became lightsabers. Plastic pallets also served as floors, walls, and ceilings inside spaceships.

This is how an early Craemer plastic pallet found its way onto the big screen. It became part of the set design in film classics such as Star Wars Episodes IV–VI, Alien, Aliens, Saturn 3 and Outland. Mark Hamill and Harrison Ford walked across Craemer pallets in the Millennium Falcon, just as Sigourney Weaver and Ian Holm did in the Nostromo.

The pallet also left its mark on television. In science fiction series such as Doctor Who, The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy and Red Dwarf, Craemer pallets have been immortalised as 'supporting actors'.

Craemer Plastic Pallet used in famous blockbusters

Over time, the pallet has achieved cult status among film enthusiasts and is in high demand. However, the original series has not been produced since the 1980s and has been replaced by more advanced models.

This is why we are now making the pallet available as a printable 3D file. The STL file can be downloaded free of charge in 1:6 scale and, for fans with particularly large printers, 1:1 scale.

Use it as a baseplate for your Alien Queen vs. Powerloader model, or transform your flat into the USS Sulaco. Why not take a few photos, post them on social media and tag us? We can't wait to see your creations!
