Stafford Bye Products and the New Craemer CB3 Pallet Box

Stafford Bye Products (SBP) offer a secure solution to their customers surrounding the collection and processing of animal by-products. Established in 1989 the Shropshire based company operates country-wide and uses Craemer CB3 pallet boxes to collect poultry, beef, pork and sheep product from cutting plants, abattoirs and slaughterhouses and then in turn blends the category 3 by-products for pet food ingredients.

The process involves SBP collecting the product from their customers by using pallet boxes aboard specially designed 26 tonne rigid vehicles and also 40ft trailers. Depending on the vehicle in operation, pump up trucks or forklifts will be used to load the material onto the vehicle and the process is repeated in reverse once back at SBP headquarters.

Stafford Bye Products started using Craemer pallet boxes driven by the need for a strong, quality product that is readily available at short notice. After initially trialing the Craemer CB3, Stafford Bye Products Director Chris Wells, liked the solution which the CB3 offered to a long term problem that the company was experiencing with its existing pallet boxes. It was previously commonplace for the forks on a forklift to pierce the containers which SBP were using at the time.

Chris explained, “the additional ram protection on the CB3 gives that extra protection, which stops the forks from puncturing the lower part of the wall; we will move tonnes of pigs liver, from A to B and we need a good vessel to stand up to this”.

The evolved design on the CB3 proved to overcome this issue; wall reinforcement through additional ribs increases resilience against forklift tines. Not only does the design of the CB3 offer extra protection on itself, it is also a one piece moulded unit which adds to its strength and durability, offering a hold weight of up to 1200kg.

Another added feature on the Craemer CB3 is an extra thick foot at no additional cost. SBP were finding that it was commonplace for their existing boxes to crack under the weight if dropped from a forklift. In order to bring their boxes to a standard that would deal with this, retrofitted parts would mean more financial investment. However, the CB3 offers this reliability straight off the production line at no additional cost to Craemer’s customers.

The Craemer CB3 also lends itself to the rigid hygiene standards that companies such as SBP must uphold. Made from food grade high density polyethylene (HDPE), the CB3 will not present a chemical reaction when in contact with fats and acids; an essential quality when dealing with some of the material which SBP collects due to the proportion of fat content. In addition to the benefits of HDPE, the smooth interior of the CB3 allows the pallet boxes to be cleaned easily by pressure washing with hot water and food safe chemicals. It was also imperative to Chris that the Craemer CB3 was “inter-changeable and stackable” with other pallet boxes on the market to enable the CB3 to be implemented into their existing process without any issues.
