The state-of-the-art injection molding facility at the Aurea Industrial Park, designed with a strong focus on sustainable and renewable energy, was opened in February 2023. Construction of the wind turbine began in March 2025. The turbine has now been in operation for several weeks, marking the next step in the site’s development. It is designed to generate around 14.5 million kilowatt-hours annually. With a rated output of 6.8 megawatts, it can cover a large proportion of the facility’s electricity requirements. The Craemer injection molding facility in Oelde consumes roughly the same amount of electricity each year as around 4,800 households. Any surplus energy can be fed into the public grid or used at the group’s headquarters in Herzebrock-Clarholz, approximately nine kilometers to the north.
Industrial production and sustainable energy supply
“By operating our own wind turbine, we are gaining greater planning certainty and reducing our exposure to volatile electricity prices,” said Managing Director Siegbert Geldner. “At the same time, we are reaffirming our commitment to combining industrial production with a sustainable energy supply in Germany.”
Together with Sebastian P. Brandenburg and Christoph J. Brandenburg, Managing Partners, as well as authorized signatory Ralf Westermann, Head of Plant Planning and Procurement, he opened the event and welcomed representatives from the local authorities in Oelde, Rheda-Wiedenbrück and Herzebrock-Clarholz, as well as neighboring companies, business partners and employees. Guests then toured the production facility, gaining insights into energy-efficient manufacturing and exploring a range of Craemer plastic products. The production hall currently houses five injection molding machines with capacities ranging from 3,200 to 5,500 metric tons, as well as three welding systems used in the production of high-quality polyethylene pallets and pallet boxes. In addition, an extruder produces high-quality recycled material from end-of-life Craemer plastic products.
Comprehensive energy concept combining wind and solar power
The wind turbine forms part of a comprehensive energy concept. Since the end of May 2025, a photovoltaic system covering the entire roof area of the production hall has been generating additional electricity. The system comprises 2,380 modules, each with a peak output of 435 watts, achieving an annual output of around 800,000 kilowatt-hours. A further photovoltaic installation on the open space below the wind turbine is planned.
By combining wind and solar energy, Craemer is creating the conditions to increasingly manufacture plastic products using its own renewable electricity. In conjunction with the on-site production of high-quality recycled material from used plastic products, the family-owned company is strengthening its focus on energy efficiency and the circular economy. With its investment in renewable energy, Craemer is reaffirming its long-term commitment to the region and to sustainable industrial production.
